Scholarship Information

Scholarships: 

The following scholarships are available to students to apply for. Please note that these scholarships are community/institution based and have varying deadlines and selection criteria. For more information, please connect with guidance or the member institution directly. 

Loran Scholars Foundation: Loran Scholars Applications open in early September.  The application process no longer requires school sponsorship.

Schulich Leader Scholarships: Schulich Leaders Applications require school sponsorship.  In order to be considered for sponsorship, please submit a completed copy of your scholarship application to the guidance department on or before Jan. 15th, 2024.

TD Community Leaders: TD Community Leaders Applications open in September and are due typically due in mid-November.

Black Foundation of Community Network Scholarships

Jean Lumb Foundation: Provides financial awards to students of Chinese heritage

The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation: The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation (CSTF) has partnered with My Blueprint to give away $150,000 in bursaries for students in financial need.

The Mon Sheong Golden Jubilee Scholarship: The Mon Sheong Golden Jubilee Scholarship is presented annually to students who demonstrate well-rounded excellence and desire to make real change.

Longan Scholarship Foundation: A Canadian organization which sponsors scholarships for students actively engaged in the GTA community who will be pursuing postsecondary programs.

Markham African Caribbean Canadian Association: The Markham African Caribbean Canadian Association (MACCA) awards annual scholarships based on students' involvement and dedication to their community and academic achievements for those pursuing postsecondary studies.

The Terry Fox Foundation: The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award is aimed at providing students who demonstrate compassion and a commitment to ease the suffering of others a significant scholarship. Applications close on Dec. 1st.

District 16 OSSTF Human Rights Bursary Award: Open to any graduating YRDSB student who can demonstrate financial need.

Horatio Alger Association of Canada Vocational and Technical Scholarships: To be eligible for the Horatio Alger Vocational and Technical Education Scholarship Program, an applicant must:

  • Have completed high school
  • Applying or enrolled for Fall 2024 in a vocational or technical certificate program at a government or not-for-profit institution with direct pathways to employment
  • Demonstrated critical financial need ($65,000 or less annual net income per family is required)
  • Demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity
  • Be a Canadian citizen

Congress of Black Women of Canada: To recognize self-identified Black students in Grade 12 for their academic achievements, community involvement, and financial need. These students must live in Markham and be pursuing full-time studies at a Canadian college or university in the upcoming school year.

Alliance of Educators for Black Students: AEBS invites students who self-identify as Black  and who are graduating from high school in the York Region District School Board to apply for the scholarships below. The deadline to apply / submit this application is Sunday, May 19, 2024 by 11:55 p.m. 

Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Toronto Education Foundation: The CIBPA through its Education Bursary Program, is proud to support students of Italian heritage in all fields of study and non-Italians enrolled in Italian studies curriculums. Please see your Guidance Counsellor for the full application package.

The Nena Marsden Memorial Bursary: Please see the Guidance Office for further information. 

The Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association: (NACCA) Scholarship is awarded to students who are entering their first year of full time post-secondary studies and demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to community service in order to break down barriers and build inclusive spaces.

Healthy Democracy Student Leadership Award: Open to all OPSBA-member English public school and school authority students. 

CB/WC Markham (Congress of Black Women of Canada, Markham Chapter): This award is to recognize self-identified Black students in Grade 12, attending school in Markham, for their academic achievements, community involvement, and financial need. 

Wallace Joyce Scholarship: The Wallace Joyce Scholarship, presented by the Varley-McKay Art Foundation of Markham, offers $1,000 in support of post-secondary studies. Deadline: April 30, 2025.
