Our department provides a broad range of programs and services for our students, their parents/guardians and the school community.

Guidance counsellors address questions and concerns regarding high school program planning, academic success, post-secondary education, career planning, as well as assisting students with personal and social issues. 

 

Book an Appointment

Students will book an appointment digitally via Teach Assist.  If you have any questions, please email our Guidance Secretary, Ms. Yu.

Students will be assigned a counsellor​ according to their surname, but may book an appointment with any counsellor.

  1. From a student's Teach Assist account, find the 'Appointment Bookings' section.

  2. Locate the appropriate alpha Guidance counsellor based on last name.

  3. Choose the day you would like to meet the Guidance counsellor by clicking on the calendar.

  4. Choose a time to see the Guidance counsellor that is not during instructional time. Indicate the reason for the appointment and whether or not a parent/guardian will be attending. Appointments through Google Meet if virtual, but in person appointments are now happening (and parents/guardians can attend).

  5. Book that time by clicking on it. A confirmation of the appointment will appear as a yellow bar in the Teach Assist account. Appointments can be cancelled by unclicking the time.

  6. Wait to be contacted by the Guidance counsellor just before the appointment through an invite to Google Meet using the student's Gapps email account, or pop down to the Guidance office if the appointment is in person!

 

Note:

  1. Appointments must be booked at least one day in advance.

  2. Appointments should not be booked during instructional time. 

  3. Appointments can happen virtually or in person. In person is encouraged where possible.

What we do

Our guidance department serves the school community in a variety of ways:

  • Supports students in academic planning and course selection.
  • Helps students to seek out special pathways programs in secondary school that support their learning styles, interests and needs.
  • Helps individual students to envision a plan for post-secondary and target some short and long term goals.
  • Provides information around all post-secondary pathways (workplace, college, apprenticeship, university) and  career pathways.
  • Supports students in establishing effective study habits and exam preparation.
  • Coaches in the scholarship application process.
  • Supports students in such life skills as decision-making, problem-solving, conflict-resolution,  stress  and  time management and relationship awareness.
  • Provides personal counselling and referrals to  community resources.
  • Provides crisis counselling and referrals to community resources.

Explore My Options

There are many opportunities beyond the regular classroom to explore your education and career choices. Your first step in trying a new opportunity is being aware of those options.
