Introductory Kinesiology (PSK4U1)
This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.
Prerequisite: Any Grade 11 university or university/college preparation course in Science, or any Grade 11 or 12 open course in Health and Physical Education.
Sports Management (IDC4U1)
This course explores the world of sport from the business perspective. Students will engage in leadership opportunities, investigate facility and event management, and learn about marketing and advertising of sport. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about sport finance and the world of “athlete contracts”, sport law and sport policies and government. This course will prepare the students for university programs in Business, Sport Management and Sports Administration.
This course will count as the HPE Grade 12 course for students at BCSS. Students can only take one IDC4U course for transcript purposes. For example, taking both Sports Management (IDC4U1) and Finance (IDC4U2) can only count as 1 credit.

Activity Based Courses
Senior TGfU/ Recreational Leadership (Semester 1: PPL4O1, Semester 2: PAL401, Option: PLF4M1)
This course enables students to further develop the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices. It places special emphasis on how students can maintain the habits of healthy, active living throughout their lives as they make the transition to adulthood and independent living. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities in a variety of settings, students can enhance their movement competence, personal fitness, and confidence. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.
This course option will be offered as a co-ed class.
Total Fitness- Female Only (Semester 1: PAF4O8, Semester 2: PAI4O8)
This course is the natural progression of the Grade 10 Fitness program. This course focuses on the development of a healthy active lifestyle by way of active participation in a variety of activities that promote sustained, ongoing physical fitness. Students will be challenged to set personal fitness goals and design individual strength and conditioning programs to enhance their athleticism. Students will work on developing all components of physical fitness including cardiorespiratory, flexibility, strength and conditioning, speed, power and agility. Students will focus on running, spinning, yoga, weight training, and plyometrics. In Health, students will study the components of healthy relationships, nutrition, reproductive health, mental health, and personal safety with an emphasis on technology.
